After all that jazz about Katrina Kaif being the most searched for Indian actress according Google's India Zeitgeist, it's Namitha's turn to enjoy the spotlight as well. Namitha came ninth on Google's list of the top searches on mobile for the year 2008. The actress who is most popular among her Malayalee audiences is two places lower than Katrina who is placed sixth here.
Namitha was surprised when her friends told her and she said, "This makes me conscious of my responsibility now." Namitha debuted in the Telugu film Sontham where she was given the screen name Bhairavi. But she became famous with the Tamil film Engal Anna opposite Vijayakanth.
Namitha, the strength of Jaganmohini
"When we decided to remake 'Jaganmohini', Namitha was the name that popped up in our mind immediately. She combines glamour with performance. She is the USP of the film," says the movie's director N K Viswanathan.
The cinematographer turned filmmaker says, "due credit should also be given to Nila and Raja, who have played their parts well. What started as a small venture has become a big fare. Thanks to technological development, we have succeeded in coming out with a movie that would be on par with international standards."
The visual effects combined with splendid musical score by Illayaraja have given the movie a fresh identity, Viswanathan says and adds, "We are eagerly waiting for the movie to hit the screens."
Namitha plays the role enacted by Jayamalini in the original directed by Vittalacharya, while the rest of the cast includes Nila and Tollywood actor Raja. Produced by H Murali, the shooting for the movie is complete and it is all set for an early release.

Guess what could be the reason behind Namitha entering filmdom and making it to the top? The reason was her defeat at a qualifying round for Miss World that held years ago.
“When I went to the qualifying round of Miss World, I was not selected by the juries just because I didn't know English. Finally, Priyanka Chopra emerged the winner and became Miss World,” the actress says.
She adds: “I vowed on that day to master English and to make it big in filmdom. Now, I know the language very well and I am there in the hearts of millions of fans. This is all thanks to the challenge I took on that day.”
Saying that she has shed six kilos following advice from her friends and well-wishers, Namitha adds, “at present I am acting in a Telugu film opposite Balakrishna. Talks are on to sign on the dotted lines for a Kannada movie. I would like to make it big in Sandalwood too.”
